- We were able to identify more than 70.000 tons of alternative biomass available on a yearly basis and deliver upward scaling possibilities for the upcoming years. This volume represents more than 30% of the yearly required baseload.
- Additionally, we provided the client with strategic market insights. In fact, the driving issue of the increasing complexity of the supply market is the limited availability of products. We made suggestions for our client to secure their future supply.
Client profile
Biomass power plant. A major shareholder of the company, with revenue exceeding two billion dollars, has worked with us on several sourcing projects in the past.
The challenge
The biomass power plant was operating in a challenging niche market. In fact, the rising demand for used wood and the increasing shortages due to the energy crisis complicates the current sourcing of the biomass input in terms of non-recyclable wood waste. Furthermore, technical specifications established by the client posed to be a key constraint in of the scope of the project.
Hudicor’s approach
We opted for a long term two-way approach consisting of a structural and a direct practical approach. The structural approach consisted of contacting several major institutes, research centers and federations to gain theoretical insights.
The direct practical approach, on the other hand, consisted of contacting potential suppliers in different industries to get quick and hands-on information about direct waste streams useful for incineration.
The mix of these approaches enable us to define a best-in-class category strategy and to identify all sorts of possible levers to realize added value in a sustainable way. Frequent cross-functional communication, building strong relationships with (potential) suppliers and the provision of strong guidance to operations in the sampling process all play a key role in supporting the overall process and steering to compliance.
